As a Web and Graphic Designer I predominantly deal with static text and images. However, that’s not to say that we designers can’t take inspiration from areas of Motion Graphics. In this post I list a few of my favorite inspirational and beautiful opening title sequences from film and TV.

Experimenting with the wonderfull IOGraph

I recently stumbled upon a great little piece of software called IOGraph. IOGraph tracks your mouse’s movement around your screen. The black dots occur when there is no mouse movement, the bigger the dot the longer the time without movement. Back sometime in January (I’ve only just discovered it though) Rachael Furn posted an interesting article on her blog comparing the different outcomes from a developer and a designer using the software to track their mouse movements.

Beautiful Packaging: Clipper Green Tea

I came across this beautiful example of packaging design the other day. I just love it! The box itself is made from nice textured card and feels really nice to touch. I think they definitely nailed the whole fair trade vibe with this one.

Logo design Case study: Furness Arts

Furness Arts are a Social Enterprise based in Cumbria who recently asked me to design them an identity. As with any logo design project the first step is to gather as much information as possible about the company. What do they do? Who are their main competitors? What is their USP? What demographic is their target audience?

Lightroom can do things Photoshop can’t even dream of

Really, it can! Over the past few weeks my workflow for dealing with my photography library has changed quite considerably. I first adopted Adobe Lightroom as a way to organize my photographs around September last year. Up till then I’d relied on importing photos onto my hard drive into a ‘Photography’ folder and creating a new sub-folder for each new import. It was a pretty crude system and it got out of hand pretty quickly. It wasn’t till I started helping my Dad organize his 90,000 photo library (which was organised in the same crude way) that I started to look at alternatives.

Kutchibok’s Stunning Website Now Live

After a long time collaborating with Kutchibok their beautiful new website is finally live. The site went through many changes and amendments along the way and I have to say I think the guys have done a superb job with the design of the site. My role in the project was as a developer – there were many challenges to overcome but I’m really happy with the job I’ve done.
